In order to drive our work on the Framingham Public Schools Elementary School Assessment Calendar, the elementary-literacy-specialist team* believes that:
Assessments inform instruction.
It’s important to have a variety of assessments -- including criterion and norm-referenced tests.
Assessments provide information on student growth and student performance levels.
Students should be assessed in multiple ways but student learning time, teacher teaching time, building resource time, and student profile should be taken into account.
The FPS Assessment Calendar includes formative common assessments and benchmark common assessments.
Daily classwork and teacher observations serve as formative classroom assessments for learning and must be included in a full assessment protocol.
Assessment data also serves as a tool for teacher reflection.
